the same
dark blood stirring
the rage of the wounded,
we murmured the grace
like an old song,
and slipped through
the stream of the last
fast-going days.

A Wild Shriek Of Musketry (December 20, 2010)
a wild shriek of musketry
into the pines,
knocking over an empty
dream.
try to persuade patience
I will see about
Fortifications
into the pines,
knocking over an empty
dream.
try to persuade patience
I will see about
Fortifications
A Sidewise Glancing (December 29, 2010)
a sidewise, glancing
eyes like lightning
At last they rose,
and sailed
into the air beautifully
half drowned with
gladness
eyes like lightning
At last they rose,
and sailed
into the air beautifully
half drowned with
gladness

Hands Clutching A White Envelope (December 27, 2010)
hands clutching
a white envelope
The man paused again.
But wait.
plans have changed
Into the kitchen for
some old burgundy.
a white envelope
The man paused again.
But wait.
plans have changed
Into the kitchen for
some old burgundy.
I Fear For What Is Remembered (December 26 2010)
I fear for
What is remembered
what it has to say.
already running on hibernation
deep in shadowy
here until sunset
What is remembered
what it has to say.
already running on hibernation
deep in shadowy
here until sunset

If I Have Made You Love Me (December 25, 2010)
if I have made you love me
with no pretty speeches
Could it mean
you are with fever.
and all too happy
whistling Besides,
No room there for a mare.
with no pretty speeches
Could it mean
you are with fever.
and all too happy
whistling Besides,
No room there for a mare.

Go Across And Calm The Leaders (December 16, 2010)
go across and
calm the leaders.
By all means, do.
with your own
dirgeful tale of
water full in the face
calm the leaders.
By all means, do.
with your own
dirgeful tale of
water full in the face

The Tall Poplars (December 15, 2010)
the tall poplars,
in whose shade
such seclusion
many a lone hour.
Obligin my own time,
deep into a daze
in whose shade
such seclusion
many a lone hour.
Obligin my own time,
deep into a daze

Behind The Walls (December 13, 2010)
behind the walls
He spoke in a loud whisper
"Shh-hhh, it is late--or rather
it is early."
why not both?

it is early."
why not both?

This Night (December 12, 2010)
this night,
the very pulse of winter
the snow fell
like a soft coverlet
each moment still
only the quiet
remained
the very pulse of winter
the snow fell
like a soft coverlet
each moment still
only the quiet
remained

Shattered By (December 11, 2010)
shattered by
the arabesque beauty
of clouds
folded curled stretched
and so soon parting,
whispers from the sky
the arabesque beauty
of clouds
folded curled stretched
and so soon parting,
whispers from the sky

With Word To No One (December 8, 2010)
with word to no one
make all things seem possible.
Do not worry about Must we
Only
burst into a rollick of laughter.
make all things seem possible.
Do not worry about Must we
Only
burst into a rollick of laughter.

No Doubt Even Now (December 7, 2010)
No doubt
there is even now
the long line of
counted dreams
each deep wish
faintly arched
delicately cut
and always
blue.

You Have Not Lived Long Enough (December 4, 2010)
You have not lived long enough to
wander so wistfully
is your gathered knowledge
leathered by the sun and wind
How can I tell?
open your hands
wander so wistfully
is your gathered knowledge
leathered by the sun and wind
How can I tell?
open your hands

Has It Ever Seemed Strange To You (December 3, 2010)
Has it ever seemed
strange to you that
solitude is better
more distinct colorful
to escape boredom
I prefer waiting
strange to you that
solitude is better
more distinct colorful
to escape boredom
I prefer waiting

We Are On The Threshold (December 2, 2010)
We are
On the threshold
A few more miles
will carry us across
another winter
we will forget all
that has happened
On the threshold
A few more miles
will carry us across
another winter
we will forget all
that has happened

Remnants (December 1, 2010)
It is the first of December and time for a feature from a guest poet. This month the guest is none other than Johntimothy Pizzuto, my wonderful and charming husband! Johntimothy has been making some found text poems too over the last year and I find his way of putting together these bits of cut phrases together quite fascinating! Johntimothy is a printmaker and Associate Professor of Printmaking at the University of South Dakota. Some of his artwork can be found on his website, which is sorely in need of an update! Hope you enjoy Johntimothy's poem!
language so difficult be-
through the tiny openings
the words came again and again
curiousity. "Tell me about
campfires burned low,
tinder into flame and
Watching each movement
all of life's remnants seem
innocent to all eyes

My Deepest Burning Wish (November 30, 2010)
my deepest
burning wish
bade me sit beside
In golden voice
Lifting me
through the dark
it flattered
Somehow I
thirsted for more
burning wish
bade me sit beside
In golden voice
Lifting me
through the dark
it flattered
Somehow I
thirsted for more

I Will Be Far Away (November 29, 2010)
I will be far away
drawing the impossible
with a lump of radiant red
into the soft fertile soil
let the blood speak.

As If By Some Signal (November 28, 2010)
As if by some signal,
into a door of dark
circle the scattered jests
I need rest
and something to chew.

I need rest

Sooner Or Later Something Solid (November 26, 2010)
sooner or later
something solid.
the sight of
a rose muffled
reflection through
the darkening
shadows.
something solid.

a rose muffled
reflection through
the darkening
shadows.

My Heart Seeks (November 21, 2010)
My heart seeks
a rising above
into absence.
If I leave
you will find
the wind blows
from that direction
a rising above
into absence.
If I leave
you will find
the wind blows
from that direction

A Pale Light Filtered (November 19, 2010)
a pale light filtered
through the cloud
that hovered outside the door
I reached out
with an air of assurance
shadows swirled
there was only
the presence of melancholy
piercing the night sky
through the cloud
that hovered outside the door
I reached out
with an air of assurance
shadows swirled
there was only
the presence of melancholy
piercing the night sky

What About All The Knowledge (November 18, 2010)
what about
all the knowledge
in the stones
sun-dried and warm,
the smallest word
a fragmentary rock
It is said that forever is
too far to fall
all the knowledge
in the stones
sun-dried and warm,
the smallest word
a fragmentary rock
It is said that forever is
too far to fall

It Was Then (November 17, 2010)
It was then
sitting beside the brook
stroking his mustache
Dear, dear, he said slowly,
and smiled
as a fox seems to smile
sitting beside the brook
stroking his mustache
Dear, dear, he said slowly,
and smiled
as a fox seems to smile
At Night Frost (November 16, 2010)
At night frost
and trembling voices
gazed from this forlorn place
I must say farewell
before the snows come.

gazed from this forlorn place
I must say farewell
before the snows come.

From This Shallow Cave (November 15, 2010)
from this shallow cave
I see a bright-ringed moon
the night of velvet
with air like lace
and the only sound
is absence

Is There Anyone Here... (November 12, 2010)
Is there anyone here
who can explain
the weariness of great sacrifices
the meaning of melancholy dreams
or the endless devotion of
my innermost heart

my innermost heart

Go With The West Wind (November 11, 2010)
Go with the west wind
flying into the blue
leaving no shred of farewell
flinging flatteries into pink
flying into the blue
leaving no shred of farewell
flinging flatteries into pink
